Offshore Wind Installation Photography — DEME Jack-Up Vessel Apollo, Moray West
Industrial photography delivered offshore on board the jack-up vessel Apollo during turbine installation within the Moray West wind farm.
This project focused on documenting offshore wind turbine installation on board DEME’s jack-up vessel Apollo, operating within the Moray West wind farm. The requirement was to capture installation activity across both day and night shifts, producing material that accurately represented the process while remaining usable for stakeholder communication and commercial use.
The work needed to reflect the scale and sequencing of installation, capturing each stage of the operation as it progressed offshore.
CLIENT: DEME
SECTOR: Renewable Energy / Offshore Wind
LOCATION: Moray West, North Sea
ENVIRONMENT: Jack-up vessel / offshore wind installation
DURATION: 4 Days (day and night shifts)
SCOPE: Stills, drone, video (b-roll) and portraits
MODEL: Single Project Industrial Photography
Approach & Operational Reality
Installation activity defined the structure of the shoot. Work was carried out on a live jack-up vessel, with movement, access and timing dictated by lifting operations, deck activity and offshore conditions. Photography and drone coverage were delivered across both day and night shifts, working within the constraints of continuous installation.
The focus was on following the sequence of turbine installation — from positioning through to transition piece placement over monopile foundations — capturing how the operation progressed rather than isolating individual moments. Low light conditions, changing weather and vessel movement required a flexible approach, ensuring coverage remained consistent as conditions shifted.
Outcomes & Use
The final material was built to reflect both the scale of the installation and the detail of the operation, producing a structured set of assets usable across multiple outputs.
Documentary stills capturing installation sequence and activity
Drone footage showing vessel position, infrastructure and offshore context
B-roll supporting video and campaign use
Portraits of crew and personnel working on installation
The result is a cohesive body of work that represents offshore wind installation as it happens, supporting communication, reporting and commercial use without losing operational context.
